Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty trade in green; Eicher Motors, YES Bank top gainers

Equity benchmarks were trading flat as investors turned cautious after weak retail sales data from the United States fanned fears of a slowdown, but hopes of upbeat corporate earnings in the domestic market kept losses in check.

Among individual stocks, Hathway Cable & Datacom jumped almost 5 percent on the BSE on October 17, a day after the company had reported narrowing down of its consolidated net loss to Rs 2.42 crore for the second quarter ended on September 30. The company reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 84.70 crore in the July-September quarter a year ago, Hathway Cable and Datacom said in a regulatory filing.

At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 38679.14 up by 80.15 points or by 0.21 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 11469.45 up by 5.45 points or by 0.05 per cent.

Sensex touched intraday high of 38710.3 and intraday low of 38557.43 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11482.6 and intraday low of 11439.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 42.55,+3.40%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1303.50,+2.28%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 591.50,+1.27%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1787.80,+1.25%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 701.10,+1.10%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 145.20,-3.01%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2010.60,-1.72%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 341.60,-1.68%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 139.45,-1.52%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 717.20,-1.40%), among others.

Among the sectors, FMCG index was at 11769.37 up by 75.58 points or by 0.65%. Bajaj Consumer Care Ltd. (Rs. 259.55,+10.61%), Emami Ltd. (Rs. 346.50,+8.65%), Agro Tech Foods Ltd. (Rs. 503.85,+5.53%), Eveready Industries India Ltd. (Rs. 37.95,+4.83%), Kwality Ltd. (Rs. 2.05,+4.59%),.

On the flip side, Metal index was at 8774.94 down by -118.93 points or by -1.34%. National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 40.05,-3.84%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 145.20,-3.01%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 183.60,-2.44%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 100.85,-1.90%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 341.60,-1.68%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2441 , shares advanced were 1109 while 1137 shares declined and 195 were unchanged.
