Mid Session: Sensex extends losses, Nifty trades low; MRF slips 4%

The Indian benchmark indices continued their falling streak in the afternoon session on Friday. The shares of MRF slipped 4 per cent on Friday after the company posted 18 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 279 crore for December quarter (Q3FY19), due to higher other expenses. It had reported a profit of Rs 341 crore in a year-ago quarter. Operational revenue grew 6 per cent at Rs 4,034 crore against Rs 3,799 crore during the corresponding quarter of previous fiscal. At 12:33 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 36743.43 down by -227.66 points or by -0.62 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11000.8 down by -68.6 points or by -0.62 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36885.58 and intraday low of 36716.11 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11041.2 and intraday low of 10988.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1294.90,+0.90%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1067.65,+0.62%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 766.05,+0.35%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 177.25,+0.28%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 2705.15,+0.28%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 149.00,-18.53%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 80.30,-14.94%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 159.05,-2.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 687.00,-2.07%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1278.15,-1.69%), among others.

Among sectors, BSETECk index was at 7745.32 up by 8.2 points or by 0.11%. Reliance Communications Ltd. (Rs. 5.49,+5.78%), Bharti Infratel Ltd. (Rs. 320.20,+4.38%), Dish TV India Ltd. (Rs. 29.00,+1.75%), Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd. (Rs. 22.35,+1.36%), TV Today Network Ltd. (Rs. 338.30,+0.99%),. On the other hand, Metal index was at 10468.96 down by -160.68 points or by -1.51%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 46.95,-3.40%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 132.45,-2.79%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 159.05,-2.69%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 267.15,-2.09%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 206.25,-1.41%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2418, shares advanced were 846 while 1443 shares declined and 129 were unchanged.
