Indian benchmarks ended higher for eighth straight session, their longest gaining run so far this year following a slew of positive economic data that revived overall investors' sentiment despite mixed global cues.
According to government data, inflation based on wholesale prices eased marginally to 2.47 per cent in March on cheaper food articles, especially pulses and vegetables.
Wholesale inflation was 2.48 per cent in February and 5.11 per cent in March last year.
Besides, reflecting further improvement in the economic situation, industrial production grew by a healthy 7.1 per cent in February while the key retail inflation slipped to a five-month low of 4.28 per cent in March, official data showed on Thursday.
Shares of India’s second-largest IT services company, Infosys, tumbled nearly 3 per cent after it forecast on Friday FY19 operating margin between 22 to 24 per cent, which Credit Suisse said was 100 basis points below expectations, and slightly lower than the previous year’s 24.3per cent.
The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 34305.43 up by 112.78 points or by 0.33 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10528.35 up by 47.75 points or by 0.46 per cent.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 34341.46 and intraday low of 33899.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10540.15 and intraday low of 10396.35.
