The market wiped out its morning gains to trade lower as banking & financial stocks were off their day's high.
Globally, European equities opened mixed, as investors monitored corporate earnings and awaited the release of US inflation data later in the day.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 was little changed from the previous session shortly after the opening bell, with sectors and major bourses pointing in opposite directions.
Back home, Nifty Bank index turned negative while PSU Bank index trimmed gains to 2 per cent from 5 per cent. The Nifty IT Index fell 1.5 per cent.
At 14:15 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 33785.44 down by -132.5 points or by -0.39 % and NSE Nifty was at 10388.65 down by -32.75 points or by -0.31 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 34077.32 and intraday low of 33736.67. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10478.6 and intraday low of 10377.85.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2894.05,-5.17%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1084.60,-1.45%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 293.50,-1.44%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8709.35,-1.16%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 169.15,-1.08%), among others.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 527.70,+1.64%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 519.40,+1.36%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 294.65,+1.34%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2172.55,+1.19%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1871.00,+0.87%), among others.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2879, shares advanced were 1634 while 1076 shares declined and 169 were unchanged.
