Sensex trades lower, Nifty below 12,800

Benchmark indices witnessed a sharp fall in the afternoon session with Nifty around 12800. Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries, IndusInd Bank and Tata Motors were most active.

Indian rupee is trading lower at 74.28 per dollar, amid selling seen in the domestic equity market.

Hero MotoCorp share price rose 7 percent on November 19 after the company reported improved sales during the festival season.

The company sold more than 14 lakh units of motorcycles and scooters during the just concluded festive season, the company said in the release.

At 14:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 43792.81 down by -387.24 points or by -0.88 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12799.25 down by -139 points or by -1.07 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 44230 and intraday low of 43518.11 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12963 and intraday low of 12745.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 190.25,+2.64%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 188.40,+2.36%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 1307.50,+2.18%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 90.05,+1.98%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 525.30,+1.61%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 241.95,-4.01%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 481.15,-3.28%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 618.75,-2.74%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 4798.05,-2.62%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1378.30,-2.14%), among others.

Among the sectors, Power index was at 1930.63 up by 17.98 points or by 0.94%. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 190.25,+2.64%), KEC International Ltd. (Rs. 345.90,+2.46%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 90.05,+1.98%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 29.05,+1.93%), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 841.00,+1.64%),.

Bankex index was at 33447.09 down by -698.22 points or by -2.04%. Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 59.00,-4.68%), State Bank of India (Rs. 241.95,-4.01%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 481.15,-3.28%), RBL Bank Ltd. (Rs. 214.50,-3.05%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 618.75,-2.74%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3136 , shares advanced were 1409 while 1516 shares declined and 211 were unchanged.
