Sensex Nifty marginally down; metal, pharma stocks in focus

Domestic equities slipped into the red in early deals on Thursday, tracking losses in the Asian peers. Mounting coronavirus cases in the US, coupled with fresh localised lockdown in New York city, and no-specific date for a vaccine rollout weighed on investor sentiment.

After hitting a low of 43,821 in the early deals, the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex rebounded from lows and was trading at 44164.21 down by -15.84 points or by -0.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12900.9 down by -37.35 points or by -0.29 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 44167.63 and intraday low of 43821.39 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12908.45 and intraday low of 12835.6

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 8047.95,+3.47%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1172.00,+2.11%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 527.70,+2.07%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 4744.05,+1.90%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2650.65,+0.94%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 182.25,-1.67%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 492.60,-0.97%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2174.80,-0.97%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1395.15,-0.95%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 630.25,-0.94%), among others.

Among the sectors, Realty index was at 2022.75 up by 23.38 points or by 1.17%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 280.80,+3.41%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1095.15,+2.91%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 221.90,+1.51%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 61.35,+0.82%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 191.55,+0.52%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2093 , shares advanced were 1269 while 729 shares declined and 95 were unchanged.
