Post-Session: Markets end higher for 10th consecutive day

The benchmark indices ended the day in green for the tenth straight day, as investors shrugged off concerns about a halt in Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine study and rising domestic inflation.

The Supreme Court has adjourned its hearing on a batch of petitions seeking interest waiver during the loan moratorium period to November 2.

Meanwhile, the annual rate of inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) stood at 1.32% (provisional) for the month of September, 2020 (over September, 2019) as compared to 0.33% during the corresponding month of the previous year. The wholesale price-based inflation stood at 0.16% in August.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 40794.74 up by 169.23 points or by 0.42 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11971.05 up by 36.55 points or by 0.31 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 40880.25 and intraday low of 40279.55 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11997.2 and intraday low of 11822.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 6097.75,+3.87%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3371.50,+3.00%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 406.80,+2.69%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 622.75,+2.34%), State Bank of India (Rs. 200.05,+2.25%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 79.10,-4.35%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 67.00,-2.97%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 157.00,-2.33%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 848.50,-2.18%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1136.10,-1.89%), among others.

Among the sectors, _Bankex index was at 27064.41 up by 432.54 points or by 1.62%. ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 406.80,+2.69%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 622.75,+2.34%), State Bank of India (Rs. 200.05,+2.25%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 470.90,+2.11%), RBL Bank Ltd. (Rs. 173.00,+1.94%),.

Power index was at 1607.26 down by -25.54 points or by -1.56%. NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 79.10,-4.35%), KEC International Ltd. (Rs. 327.40,-3.65%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 157.00,-2.33%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 52.90,-2.13%), NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 19.85,-1.24%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3135 , shares advanced were 1363 while 1576 shares declined and 196 were unchanged.
