Sensex, Nifty trade higher led by IT, metal stocks

The Indian markets were trading with slim gains on Thursday, lifted primarily by metal stocks.

Aurobindo Pharma on August 12 reported a 22.8 percent year-on-year (YoY) rise in consolidated profit at Rs 780.7 crore in the June quarter.

Revenue from operations for the quarter under review at Rs 5,924.8 crore increased by 8.8 percent over the year-ago period, with US formulation business showing a 15.6 percent growth at Rs 3,107.1 crore YoY.

Today, a total of 178 companies including Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, and BPCL are scheduled to announce their June quarter results. Analysts expect Hero MotoCorp's Q1 net profit to tumble anywhere in the range of 72-94 per cent on a year-on-year basis, led by massive decline in overall volumes.

At 9:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 38482.95 up by 113.32 points or by 0.3 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11353.9 up by 45.5 points or by 0.4 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 38515.63 and intraday low of 38377.94 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11358.9 and intraday low of 11321

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2292.70,+1.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 702.45,+1.48%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 79.10,+1.28%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 370.60,+1.04%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 525.75,+1.01%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 537.00,-2.11%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 87.50,-1.52%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 201.75,-1.18%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 6672.15,-0.87%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 529.60,-0.45%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 8705.9 up by 124.34 points or by 1.45%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 182.50,+3.84%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 261.85,+2.01%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 212.95,+1.79%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 235.45,+1.66%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 35.25,+0.86%),.

CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. Orient Electric Ltd. (Rs. 178.00,-0.36%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 271.10,-0.28%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1923 , shares advanced were 1294 while 534 shares declined and 95 were unchanged.
