Pre-Session: Flat opening on cards; RIL, HDFC Q1 results eyed

Domestic bourses are expected to open flat on Thursday. Investors will today react to a string of global and domestic developments, coupled with result reactions and monthly Futures and Options (F&O) contracts' expiry.

Market participants will await the results of HDFC and Reliance Industries today. Investors will also react to the results announced post market hours yesterday. Bharti Airtel reported widening of losses to Rs 15,933 crore for the June quarter and IndiGo posted its largest ever quarterly loss of Rs 2,844.3 crore for Q1.

Apart from that, market participants will also track Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting today with the chiefs of all financial sector regulators including RBI and Sebi.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 38071.13 down by -421.82 points or by -1.1 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11202.85 down by -97.7 points or by -0.86 %.

On the global front, US stocks closed higher overnight after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates at ultra-low levels and repeated a pledge to use its “full range of tools” to support the economy. Although, the Fed cautioned, that the outlook “will depend significantly on the course of the virus.” The Dow Jones rose 0.6 per cent, the S&P 500 gained 1.2 per cent, and the Nasdaq added 1.35 per cent.

In Asia, Australian ASX 200 was up 0.6 per cent and Japan's Nikkei gained 0.2 per cent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.4 per cent.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 652483 with a total turnover of Rs. 45070.91 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1636902 with a total turnover of Rs. 116406.08 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 29417932 with a total turnover of Rs. 1993876.16 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 1371283 with a total turnover of Rs. 107583.35 Crore.

The FIIs on 29/07/2020 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5811.02 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 478.12 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5627.74 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 724.87 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 183.28 Crore and Rs. -246.75
