Sensex up 1,000 pts; FM announces relief package for poor

Domestic borses continued to trade higher during the late noon trading session after the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced 5 kg of wheat or rice and one kg of preferred pulses free-of-cost every month for the next three months for 80 crore poor across the country to deal with the economic impact of the lockdown amid coronavirus outbreak.

As many of 20.5 crore women Jan Dhan Account holders will get Rs 500 per month for next three months to run their households.

For poor senior citizens, widow and disabled will get an ex-gratia of Rs 1,000

Also, the daily wage under MNREGA has been increased to Rs 202 a day from Rs 182 to benefit 5 crore workers.

At 14:35 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 29630.84 up by 1095.06 points or by 3.84 % and then NSE Nifty was at 8520.3 up by 202.45 points or by 2.43 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 30099.91 and intraday low of 28566.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8749.05 and intraday low of 8304.9

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 416.55,+38.30%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 359.35,+9.93%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 823.80,+7.47%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 460.05,+7.05%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1750.30,+6.50%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 4806.75,-4.52%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 515.85,-2.58%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 78.10,-2.01%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1063.00,-1.69%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 342.05,-1.44%), among others.

Among the sectors, _CGS index was at 11144.88 up by 668.59 points or by 6.38%. Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 2470.00,+10.52%), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 800.00,+10.47%), SKF India Ltd. (Rs. 1505.85,+9.95%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 823.80,+7.47%), Honeywell Automation India Ltd. (Rs. 25970.05,+7.37%),.

On the flip side, CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%. Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 518.80,-2.05%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2543 , shares advanced were 1542 while 814 shares declined and 187 were unchanged.
