Domestic bourses ended higher for the third consecutive day on Thursday as the constant efforts by the government to tackle the economic fallout and business disruption due to Covid-19 lockdown kept the market participants buoyant.
The 30-share bencmark index ended at 29946.77 up by 1410.99 points or by 4.94 % and then NSE Nifty was at 8641.45 up by 323.6 points or by 3.89 %.
However, World share markets fell on Thursday as nerves over jobs data likely to lay bare the economic carnage from the coronavirus pandemic outweighed a $2 trillion US stimulus package. Europe’s broad Euro STOXX 600 fell 1.6 per cent, with bourses in Frankfurt, London and Paris all down around 2 per cent as a two-day rally faltered.
The sour mood was worsened by slumping consumer morale in Germany and data showing stagnant retail sales in Britain last month, even before the virus hit.
Asian stocks witnessed a mixed session, where MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.7 per cent but regional performances varied. The Nikkei snapped three days of gains with a 4 per cent drop, while Australia’s benchmark rose for a third day - its longest winning streak in six weeks.
Back home, Sensex touched intraday high of 30099.91 and intraday low of 28566.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8749.05 and intraday low of 8304.9
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 436.95,+45.07%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 478.00,+11.23%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 839.90,+9.57%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 2794.35,+8.06%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1389.00,+7.66%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 4880.50,-3.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 515.75,-2.60%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 338.55,-2.45%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1074.75,-0.60%), among others.
Among the sectors, CGS index was at 11235.18 up by 758.89 points or by 7.24%. Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 2490.65,+11.45%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 839.90,+9.57%), SKF India Ltd. (Rs. 1498.95,+9.45%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 67.20,+7.35%), Honeywell Automation India Ltd. (Rs. 25829.05,+6.78%),.
On the flip side, _CDS index was at 27288.96 down by -104.13 points or by -0.38%..
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2641 , shares advanced were 1599 while 847 shares declined and 195 were unchanged.
