The domestic equity market ended in the positive territory on Monday following firm global cues and buying in blue-chip counters such as TCS, HDFC Bank and Tata Motors. Among the sectors, metal space led the gainers as it ended 2 percent higher followed by auto, IT, infra and bank, while energy and pharma ended with marginal loss. Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Japan, China and Korea ended on a mixed note. In Europe, bourses in Germany, France and the UK were trading in the positive terrain in early deals. Global crude oil benchmark Brent futures fell 0.73 per cent to USD 71.03 per barrel. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee depreciated 19 paise to 69.36 against the US dollar intra-day.
Among individual stock, IT bellwether TCS soared after the company Friday reported a 17.7 per cent growth in consolidated net profit at Rs 8,126 crore for the March 2019 quarter. The 30-share index settled at 38905.84 up by 138.73 points or by 0.36 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11690.35 up by 46.9 points or by 0.4 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 38976.58 and intraday low of 38780.08 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11704.6 and intraday low of 11648.25.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 111.35,+7.58%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 231.05,+7.04%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2110.05,+4.78%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 250.10,+4.30%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 552.00,+3.42%), among others. On the other hand, the top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 726.65,-2.83%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 458.45,-1.26%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 265.35,-0.93%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 156.55,-0.79%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 2013.60,-0.62%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2980 , shares advanced were 1543 while 1219 shares declined and 218 were unchanged.
