The Indian benchmark indices have further slipped into the red in this Friday afternoon session. The market fall was aided by the infra and the realty space, each shedding over 1 percent. The top infra losers were Bharti Airtel, Bharti Infratel, Engineers India, Interglobe Aviation, IRB Infra, Siemens, CG Power Container Corp, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Power, Reliance Communications, NCC, Power Grid and Vodafone Idea. The shares of Tata Motors were on track to snap their five-day winning streak after they cracked 3 per cent in Friday's session. Shares of the automaker suffered losses after the company reported a slump in the group-owned JLR global sales numbers. JLR retail sales for December 2018 were 52,160, down 6.4 per cent year-on-year. JLR's retail sales in 2018 totalled 592,708 vehicles, down 4.6 per cent compared to 2017.
At 14:23 hours, the BSE SENSEX was trading at 35918.24 down by -188.26 points or by -0.52 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10763.9 down by -57.7 points or by -0.53 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36214.26 and intraday low of 35840.6 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10850.15 and intraday low of 10739.4.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 294.50,+1.71%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 196.75,+0.85%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 144.45,+0.63%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1401.45,+0.28%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1224.40,+0.25%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 180.15,-2.91%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1839.50,-2.58%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1527.00,-2.52%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 95.65,-2.45%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1367.10,-1.67%), among others.
Among individual sectors, Metal index was at 11147.18 up by 13.54 points or by 0.12%. NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 92.35,+1.37%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 205.90,+0.98%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 196.75,+0.85%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 62.90,+0.24%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 290.00,+0.12%). On the flip side, Realty index was at 1836.8 down by -23.27 points or by -1.25%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 26.90,-4.27%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 459.80,-3.37%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 451.70,-1.91%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 383.55,-1.48%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 565.05,-1.28%).
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2779 , shares advanced were 1079 while 1498 shares declined and 202 were unchanged.
