Benchmark indices pared some of their day's gains and are currently trading around 1 per cent higher as positive global cues spill over to Indian markets ahead of key inflation data.
The dollar held an advance and crude oil steadied after its biggest plunge in two years. Traders are awaiting CPI inflation and IIP data due to be released later in the day. Retail inflation likely rose to a near two-year high in June, driven by surging oil and food prices.
Meanwhile, Reliance Industries on Thursday reclaimed the USD 100-billion m-cap mark in morning trade on the bourses, as the company shares hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 1,091 apiece.
Globally, European markets are higher today with shares in London leading the region. The FTSE 100 is up 0.45% while France's CAC 40 is up 0.23% and Germany's DAX is up 0.19%.
Back home, at 14:11 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 36571.79 up by 305.86 points or by 0.84 % and NSE Nifty was at 11026.4 up by 78.1 points or by 0.71 %.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 15576.12 down by -56.43 points or by -0.36 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 16419.05 down by -10.32 points or by -0.06 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36699.53 and intraday low of 36422.08. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11078.3 and intraday low of 10999.65.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1089.00,+5.08%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 378.50,+1.93%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1298.20,+1.82%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1962.20,+1.76%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1743.20,+1.70%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1291.05,-2.22%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3085.80,-2.17%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 213.80,-1.93%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 913.00,-1.89%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 152.65,-1.45%), among others.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2780, shares advanced were 1201 while 1417 shares declined and 162 were unchanged.
