Benchmark indices are trading higher on Thursday with the S&P BSE Sensex hitting a record high of 36,590 levels - surpassing its previous high of 36,444 recorded on January 29, 2018 in intra-day deals.
In global markets, Asian stocks and commodities recovered slightly on Thursday as markets tried to consolidate from the previous session's steep losses when fears of an escalation in the US-China trade war jolted investor sentiment.
Among the sectors, PSU bank and energy index are trading with 2 percent gain, while pharma and metal are up over 1 percent.
At 11:30 AM, BSE SENSEX was at 36596.4 up by 330.47 points or by 0.91 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11053.05 up by 104.75 points or by 0.96 %.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 15777.36 up by 144.81 points or by 0.93 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 16556.97 up by 127.6 points or by 0.78 %.
The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 36599.43 and intraday low of 36422.08. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11056.75 and intraday low of 10999.65.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1066.55,+2.91%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 382.00,+2.87%), State Bank of India (Rs. 263.90,+1.93%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 565.35,+1.71%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1295.05,+1.57%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1304.25,-1.22%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 919.95,-1.14%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 274.00,-0.60%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 371.60,-0.44%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1971.50,-0.41%), among others.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2413, shares advanced were 1458 while 824 shares declined and 131 were unchanged.
