Indian benchmarks ended flat with positive bias on Wednesday amid weakness in their key Asian peers.
Benchmark Sensex rose over 26 points to close at 36,265.93 today, powered by a rally in IT bellwether TCS following better-than-expected quarterly results.
Extending its winning run for the fourth day, the 30-share barometer, after opening on a strong footing on optimistic buying by participants, gathered momentum to touch a high of 36,362.30. However, it shed some ground on profit-booking and slipped to touch a low of 36,169.70, before finally finishing at 36,265.93, up by 26.31 points, or 0.07 per cent.
The 30-share benchmark ended 36265.93 up by 26.31 points or by 0.07 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10948.3 up by 1.05 points or by 0.01 per cent.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 36362.3 and intraday low of 36169.7 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10976.65 and intraday low of 10923.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1979.60,+5.47%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3154.35,+2.11%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1714.10,+1.59%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1320.35,+1.37%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1036.35,+1.03%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 265.25,-4.59%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 218.00,-3.52%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 267.85,-2.74%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 555.85,-2.24%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 154.90,-2.18%), among others.
Among the sectors, IT index was at 14420.33 up by 335.43 points or by 2.38%. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1979.60,+5.47%), Matrimony.com Ltd. (Rs. 765.00,+4.90%), Tanla Solutions Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2923 , shares advanced were 1139 while 1619 shares declined and 165 were unchanged.
