Mid-Session: Sensex remains rangebound, Nifty hovers around 10,950

Indian benchmarks continued to trade choppy during the noon trading session amid weakness in global peers. Asian stocks retreated and perceived safe havens such as the yen and US Treasuries rose on Wednesday after the United States said it would impose tariffs on an extra 200 billion worth of Chinese imports, sharply escalating the trade war between the world’s two biggest economies.

Among key corporate results, Reliance Industrial Infrastructure is likely to announce its June quarter results later in the day.

At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 36275.52 up by 35.9 points or by 0.1 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10956.7 up by 9.45 points or by 0.09 per cent.

In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 36341.08 and intraday low of 36169.7 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10976.65 and intraday low of 10923.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1945.50,+3.65%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 377.35,+1.82%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3134.00,+1.46%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 538.90,+1.19%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 567.80,+0.96%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 268.10,-3.56%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 218.25,-3.41%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 557.10,-2.02%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 270.00,-1.96%), State Bank of India (Rs. 258.95,-1.73%), among others.

Among the sectors, IT index was at 14311.07 up by 226.17 points or by 1.61%. Ramco Systems Ltd. (Rs. 372.55,+5.76%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1945.50,+3.65%), Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd. (Rs. 1777.00,+3.52%), Trigyn Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 127.50,+2.86%), Tanla Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 39.00,+2.77%),.

On the flip side, Metal index was at 12613.44 down by -365.11 points or by -2.81%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 218.05,-3.79%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 272.10,-3.68%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 78.30,-3.63%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 268.10,-3.56%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 218.25,-3.41%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2533 , shares advanced were 1071 while 1319 shares declined and 143 were unchanged
